Book Week Author Visit 2018

Our visiting author for Book Week is Year 9 student Tessa Quinlan

Year 9 student, Tessa Quinlan, is the author of picture book, ‘Grandma Wins’, and was our guest author for Book Week. Tessa visited the Foundation - Year 5 classrooms to read her book and describe the process from entering a writing competition in 2016 to being published, her book now available through schools and local bookstores.

Tessa answered questions, which were quite varied. Whilst Foundation students were enthralled by the printing and binding process, other year levels were intrigued by the writing competition.

The Redgum Young Writers Competition is now open for students aged 9-13 to enter. And if you have an idea for a story, then now is the perfect time to get writing! See below for more details about the competition (the same that Tessa entered and won to have her story published).

But a tip from Tessa, the Picture Book category is not as easy as one might think. It was harder than she thought to write a story in under 250 words.

Order "Grandma Wins"

Victory students can purchase a signed copy of Tessa’s picture book, ‘Grandma Wins’ for $10, by completing and returning order forms to the College Library before Friday 31st August.

Tessa will donate $1 from every book sold during Book Week to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a national book industry charity, which aims to reduce the disadvantage experienced by children in remote Indigenous communities across Australia, by lifting literacy levels and instilling a lifelong love of reading.
