Primary Athletics Carnival

Murray does it again! 05 Primary Aths Fri Morning Rotations 236

In a new format which saw the Primary Athletics Carnival held over three days, it was certainly a tightly contested battle between the three houses, which was only decided on the final morning of field events for Foundation - Year 2. Murray was the overall winner, making 2021 a very successful year for the Blues, having also won the Cross Country Carnival and the Secondary Swimming Carnival.

Our Primary students gave every event their best effort. On Monday, the Years 3-6 ran the 800m before the wet weather set in. It must have made for a very atmospheric two laps around the oval with the storm clouds brewing.

Our second day saw Years 3-6 rotating through the field events in the morning before being joined in the afternoon by the Foundation-Year 2 students for the sprints and relays. The finish line alley of supporters cheering the sprinters on was an exciting end to a big day.

The final day on Friday included the modified field events for Foundation to Year 2 which featured javellin (vortex), discus (sling shot in a weighted sock), shot put and long jump.

A big thank you to our VET Sport & Recreation students for their assistance throughout the Carnival. VET Sport & Recreation students were overseeing events, guiding our youngest students through each rotation, demonstrating beginner’s technique, allowing our young athletes lots of practice trials, and giving them plenty of encouragement. Their assistance was integral to the smooth running of the Carnival.
