Primary Athletics Carnival

Chilly weather and smiles at the Primary Athletics

The 2022 Primary Athletics Carnival was held over two days last week, with the 800m event being contested by Years 3-6 in the morning before Foundation to Year 2 ventured out to the oval for their field events. For our younger students, these modified field events included the Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus (Sling Shot in a weighted sock) and Javelin (Foam Vortex).

The final day of the Primary Athletics Carnival was held on Friday and although the weather put the winter chill into everyone, it was still a fantastic day of events. Years 3-6 had their field rotations during the morning and then everyone came out for the big finale of the 80m/100m sprints and relays after lunch. It was a fantastic atmosphere thanks to the many parents/carers who came along to cheer.

The crew of Year 10 VET Sport & Rec students did a superb job assisting throughout the Carnival. They coached students during the field events and measured the final results. The highlight was definitely the sprints session where they kept a very tidy finish line congratulating and ushering each runner off the track.

Results were announced the following Monday as the chilly weather did cause minor delays to the schedule. Congratulations to Murray for their narrow win of the 2022 Athletics Carnival continuing their dominance in this sporting arena. Their win marks the fourth year they have won the Athletics Carnival and with their win of the Primary Swimming Carnival, they look well on track for taking out the 2022 House Trophy. Well done Murray!
