School of Rock

COVID-Safe Update

Announcement:

Over the past week, the Secondary production team along with College Leadership Team have met to discuss the future of our ‘School of Rock’ production. Sadly, after four postponements, it has been decided, considering the current extended Victorian lockdown and the continued uncertainty surrounding public events, to cancel the show indefinitely. Whilst all staff involved were very disappointed to let the show go, this decision was unanimous.

We understand that this news will be very disappointing for those involved, especially those students, staff and families who were heavily invested in the project. Let me assure the College community that staff have travelled this long journey with students. We understand the natural disappointment and stand ready to support students where necessary.

As we take in this news, it is important that we also reflect on all that has been achieved. Whilst final performances provide the target and the timeline, they are not the real objective of school musical productions. In fact, it is the learning and experiences which happen along the way which are the real prize. We have seen enormous growth in many, impossible to quantify but important, life skills including increased confidence in communication and public performance, tenacity to push through, dedication, commitment and perseverance.

We are immensely proud of the efforts achieved by our students and staff throughout this project and look forward to developing the performing arts further as conditions allow. Certainly, everyone at College can appreciate the disappointment and frustration cancelling ‘School of Rock’ will cause within our community. Ultimately, it was agreed that any additional indefinite postponements would only cause further uncertainty for all involved.

Tickets will be refunded to all ticket holders which will come through in up to 10 business days, less the external Trybooking booking fee.

In the meantime, I would encourage any families who require support or have questions to get in touch with Mr Tim Hartwich, Head of Secondary (thartwich@vlc.vid.edu.au).

Once again we thank our College community and especially those students, staff and families of the cast and crew during this challenging time.

Yours in Christ,

Mr John Thompson
Principal
