Year 10 Philip Island Camp
A week of learning, laughter and lasting memoriesDay one kicked off with a pitstop in Melbourne at The Lume, where students explored the mesmerising Van Gogh experience. Many took the opportunity to try their hand at drawing, inspired by the iconic artist’s techniques. After arriving at the Phillip Island camp, the evening brought friendly competition at the bowling alley, along with pool, table tennis, and arcade games that kept spirits high.
Day two was all about action and animals. Students hit the surf in the morning, navigating some unpredictable weather but embracing the challenge with enthusiasm. The surfing activity is always a big highlight of the trip, and generally the waves are gentle enough for beginners to ease into things. By the end of this session, the waves had grown into some decent sets that gave everyone a real challenge! Huge kudos to all the students for diving into the experience with energy, courage, and loads of laughs.
The afternoon saw us step back in time at Churchill Island farm, where highlights included a working dog demonstration, adorable farm animals, and an impressive whip-cracking performance from Mrs Burton that left everyone cheering. In the evening, we headed to A Maze’N Things—a wild mix of mini-golf (rain permitting!), anti-gravity rooms, mazes, and scare zones that brought out the laughter and a few surprises!
Day 3 was packed with sweet fun and stunning sights. We toured the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, learning about the chocolate-making process through interactive games and designing our own creations—complete with a few taste tests, of course! Later, we soaked up the breathtaking coastal views at the Nobbies Centre, before ending the day with the iconic Penguin Parade, watching the little penguins waddle in after a day at sea.
Throughout the camp, students also had the chance to challenge themselves on the Giant Swing, explore Cowes town centre (with some great finds at local op shops), and take part in the soon-to-be-legendary inaugural "Chip-a-thon". This creative new tradition saw students pair their chosen chip flavour with a soft drink or juice, presenting their combinations to a judging panel for ranking—an activity full of fun, flavour, and friendly rivalry.
A huge thank you goes to our staff for coming along to make this camp so special. It was a tremendous success, filled with moments that students will carry with them long after they return to the classroom.
