Science Week

Venturing into the Secondary Science laboratories, our youngest scientists were encouraged to explore, investigate, ask questions and, most importantly, be curious as they took part in a series of hands-on science experiences.

Students put their investigation skills to work in a Bubble Science Lab, creating and testing different bubble mixtures to discover which would produce the longest-lasting bubble. Things became a little fizzier when each student created their own Lemon Volcano, watching a chemical reaction come to life as their lemons bubbled and erupted.

Students also put their creativity to work designing and decorating their own film canister rockets. While we ran out of time for launch, the rockets returned to class along with the all-important “special rocket fuel tablets”, ready for the science fun - and anticipation of BLAST OFF! - to continue another day.

The fun culminated in an exciting Elephant Toothpaste demonstration, providing one final spectacular opportunity to observe, wonder and ask, “Why did that happen?”

Our Secondary students played an important role throughout the day, working alongside the younger students to prepare experiments, make predictions, observe what happened and share in their discoveries. It was wonderful to see our older students step into leadership and mentoring roles, patiently encouraging our youngest scientists to investigate new ideas and share those exciting “Look what happened!” moments.

Science Week wasn't about getting every answer right. It was about wondering, predicting, experimenting, observing and discovering.

And judging by the bubbles, fizzing volcanoes, rockets ready for launch and excited faces in our Science labs, there was certainly plenty of curiosity being nurtured!
